Miss Juneteenth Pageant Divisions 

On-Stage Interview

​

Interview will begin with a self-introduction not to exceed 30 seconds.  The body of the interview will be a combination of questions from information from your registration form as well as current events. Total interview time must not exceed 10 minutes
 

Interview Attire  
The attire for the interview is business casual or interview dress suit, hosiery, and heels no less than 3” high (absolutely no flats allowed). You may also wear skirt and blouse, or jacket with a skirt or a dress. Shirts should be pastel pink or white and not include spaghetti straps.


Remember to utilize a more conservative choice in attire. The Interview division is not about sex appeal, it is about projecting a professional image worthy of representing the Tri-State Expo brand

and the Juneteenth holiday.

Evening Gown

Contestants are required to participate in the Evening Gown competition wearing floor length gowns and with further Rules & Regulations discussed at the Mandatory Meeting for Contestants.

Scoring:  

Evening Gown will be 20% of the total score. All judges’ decisions are final.

Essay​

Essays should be submitted typed, 12-point font, Times New Roman font style, double-spaced, and in pdf format. The question provided must be answered in entirety and between 500-600 words in length. â€‹

​

Plagiarism is automatic grounds for disqualification. 

​

Scoring:  

Essay will be 40% of the total score. All judges’ decisions are final.

​

Headshots​

The headshot can consist of a professional or semi-professional photo of the contestant's choice in Interview attire ONLY. The photo should be in a jpeg format and competition/social media ready.

​

This photo will be judged ONLY by the 2024 pageant judges. The Miss Juneteenth Pageant reserves the right to share these photos with the public through social media and various media outlets.

Scoring: 

The headshot will be 10% of the total score. All judges’ decisions are final.

Opening Number

The opening number is a choreographed, musical number by which all contestants will

interpret this year's theme, the Gullah Geechee Culture. Contestants will interpret the theme through attire and stage presence with attire Rules & Regulations discussed at the Mandatory Meeting for Contestants.

​

Attire, Oral Communication, and Stage Presence will be evaluated by

the 2024 pageant judges. 

​

Scoring:

The Opening Number will be 10% of the total score. All judges' decisions are final.

​

 Teen Miss Juneteenth 

​

Same as Miss Juneteenth with reducing the Essay to 100-200 words total. Interview will be five (5) minutes in length. 

​

Little Miss Juneteenth & Tiny Miss Juneteenth Divisions

​

Photo Competition​

The headshots can consist of a professional or semi-professional, in terms of quality. Photo of the contestant's choice in pageant gown attire. The photo should be in a Jpeg format and competition/social media ready.

​

Contestant attire should be tasteful and age appropriate. No dramatic hair extensions allowed (examples will be discussed at the Mandatory Meeting for Contestants). Make-up should be kept to a bare minimum, if any at all.

​

The Miss Juneteenth Pageant reserves the right to share these photos with the public

through social media and various media outlets. 

Scoring: 

The Photo competition is 20% of the total score. All judges' decisions are final.

Pageant GowCompetition​

​

The Pageant Gown division requires all contestants to participate wearing age-appropriate attire, formal socks/tights, and formal shoes. Contestants will be evaluated for poise, gracefulness, & gown appropriateness. Points deducted if contestant pageant gown exposes the minor's body inappropriately. Pageant Director will discuss further at the Mandatory Meeting for Contestants.

Scoring: 

The Pageant Gown competition is 50% of the total score. All judges' decisions are final.

Runway Fierce Competition

The Runway Fierce Competition is a division for contestants to demonstrate poise and confidence in the Fashion apparel of their choice. Fashion apparel must be an age-appropriate pantsuit or dress apparel, with age-appropriate dress shoes, and socks. No High-Heel Shoes for this age division. No Costumes or Stage Props or Special Music Selections other than the Music Selected by the Pageant Director. 

Make-up and Hair Extension Rules Still Apply. 

Scoring:

The Runway Fierce will be 10% of the total score. All judges' decisions are final.

Pageant Prizes for Each Division Include:

  • County Title

  • Crown & Trophy

  • Embroidered Sash with Pin

  • Juneteenth Parade Participation (mandatory for all winners)

  • Gift bag with prizes (age appropriate)

  • Photoshoot with Short Stuff Photography Studio in Dothan, Alabama

  • Dress attire from Danzey's African Goods Store in Dothan, Alabama

  • Access to designated Tri-State Expo events during the winner's reigning year

  • College Scholarships to Miss Juneteenth (11th Grade Division, per county)
